Summary: The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Driver Clerk
Work schedule:  Full Time – 48 hours per week
Start Date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end
Supervisory Position: No
Duties: Under direct supervision of the Administrative Assistant (de facto dispatcher), the incumbent will safely operate vehicles owned by the Office Legal Attaché to efficiently and comfortably transport Legate staff.  The incumbent is expected to know the best routes to meetings and other locations routinely visited by Legate staff.  The incumbent is expected to assist visitors with logistical arrangements in order to make their temporary assignment productive.  The incumbent will be supervised by the Administrative Assistant.  The incumbent will not supervise any subordinate staff.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

Requirements:

Prior Work Experience:  Minimum of three years of professional driving experience as a chauffeur of passenger vehicles of which one year must be experience in transporting American Diplomatic staff.

  1. Post Entry Training:  Defensive, Smith and Safe Driving Courses will be required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of various locations in Addis Ababa to include, but not limited to, locations for the Ethiopian Federal Police (EFP) and EFP procedures for entry and exit, and security. Should have knowledge of basic auto mechanics, common safety of passengers.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:  English and Amharic language Level 4 (fluent) in reading/writing/speaking is required. (English Language will be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to receive with courtesy and skill Americans at all levels, including senior officials required. Good working skill in operating commonly used smart phone applications including SMS, email, and peer-to-peer messaging and calendar.  Should be able to assist TDY personnel in accommodating and adjusting to Addis Ababa. Ability to drive vehicle equipped with either standard or automatic transmissions required. Must possess a current and valid minimum Grade III Ethiopian driver’s license. Excellent driving skills and basic knowledge of automobile repair and maintenance required. Basic computer and typing skills is required. (This may be tested)

Qualifications:  All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

* IMPORTANT:  Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.  A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.

** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
