Selam was formed in 1997 as an independent non-governmental culture organization. Selam’s head office is based in Stockholm with branch organizations in Addis Abeba (established 2005) and Kampala (established 2003). Selam also holds two companies: Selam Sounds in Sweden (established 2006), and Selam Sounds in Ethiopia (established 2015).
Selam is an international NGO (non-governmental organization) that works thematic area of culture with the vision to promote social change through the enabling and empowering aspects of cultural life. Selam holds a unique position in Ethiopia by functioning as a prominent actor in civil society and the culture sector and by managing culture as a tool for social development.
Roles and Responsibilities: -Implement Selam Ethiopia’s Communications Strategy and provide strategic insights for issues not covered by the strategy -Develop and implement operational plans for overall communications activities -Provide strategic communications support [not including routine activities] for Selam Ethiopia’s partners -Content Generation: Text and multimedia for all communications outputs – web, social media, newsletters, portfolio, collaterals, announcements, etc. – and disseminate outputs
-CMS: Administer Selam Ethiopia’s digital outlets, including the website, social media channels, Selam ethiopia’s info@ email, and Contact Register database
-Media Relations: Undertake media monitoring, produce media digest, organize pressers, produce press releases, handle media enquiries, and provide reactive communications as required and delegated
-Branding: Promote Selam Ethiopia’s brand, and ensure uniform application of the brand and style guide across all outputs
-Publishing: Proofreading and styling, particularly for external com outputs such as proposals, reports, and briefs; layout and graphics design; and producing camera ready designs for printing
-Reporting: Compile and produce various organizational related performance reports, such as monthly digital report, post-event summaries, quarterly brand audits, lessons learnt, Case stories etc-Knowledge Management: Administer Selam Ethiopia’s Resource Center, meeting room, and common repository, while actively seek, document, organize, and make accessible a wide range of knowledge materials-Event: Coordinate the organization of various events, and ensure these opportunities serve SE’s branding and messaging purposes -Translation (preferably): Written documents from Amharic to English or vice versa

Job Requirements:
Educational requirement and Professional Experience:
At least a university degree in media, journalism, communications, or a related field
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in:
Designing and implementing communications strategies
Content generation, journalism, media production, publishing (proofreading, editing, layout, design, desktop/commercial printing, etc.), and preferably translation, interpretation, and moderation as well
Corporate communications, public and media relations, awareness, resource mobilization, and networking
Digital content management system -Organization of events, particularly performing arts
Photography, film making, graphics design, and branding is an added advantage
Functional Competencies: -Strategy Driven: Ability to solve problems in strategic approaches -Seeing the Bigger Picture: Effective analytical skills to identify and tackle the bigger issues that can impact SE’s image -Communications: Advanced speaking and writing skills in both Amharic and English languages, where knowledge of additional local languages would be an asset
-Coordination: Strong event management and organizational skills
-Keen attention to detail -Delivering: Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a high degree of autonomy -Networking: Excellent people skills -Sectoral Familiarity: With the media environment as well as the culture sector, plus a working experience in an I/NGO
